Mini PCNL or Mini Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy is modification of conventional PCNL first enunciated in 1998 by Professor Dr. Li Xun & Professor Dr. Zeng Guo Hua from minimal invasive center, the first affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University in China. Currently Mini PCNL is available in China, India and Nepal (at NORVIC-ESCORTS INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL).
With the help of Mini PCNL, any kind of stones within the urinary tract system can be removed safely up to 90-95 percent stone clearance rate.
The first case OF Mini PCNL was carried out at NORVIC-ESCORTS INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL on 12th September, 2005. So far, 150 cases have been performed successfully with the simple to most complicated cases.
The procedure involves small incision at the back of the body, about 0.5 cm through which camera Lithotriptor (stone breaking instrument) and stone suction instruments are inserted. Bigger stones are fragmented within the kidney and all the stones will be removed from the same port with the help of forceps and the stone suction machine. Final x-ray is done at the end of the procedure to check whether any stones are left or not.
All the procedure is done under general anesthesia and the patient can be discharged with in 48 hours of surgery.
This procedure is helpful as minimal injury takes place to the kidney as compared to open surgeries, stone clearance rate is very high as the procedure is done under direct vision, ensuring the minimal blood loss and fast recovery. |
